Commonly people start using cannabis because the medications they take for pain, anxiety or insomnia just have too many side effects. Sometimes those medications are causing harm to their bodies or organs, they’ve developed a tolerance, or the medications just aren’t working anymore. Tylenol is one of the safest medications on the planet, but in high doses, can cause cirrhosis of the liver. Overdoses can be lethal. Ibuprofen works really well for headaches and is an anti-inflammatory but can also eat a hole in your stomach over time and extended use, and can cause kidney problems.

Opioids are used for pain and have been used for pain for a long time. They can be very addictive, cause horrible constipation, and can also cause brain fog. When using cannabis for pain, it generally doesn’t take away your pain, but it does put it to the back of your mind – so, you’re not thinking about it as much.

Cannabis is a powerful anti-inflammatory. It’s about 20 times more anti-inflammatory an aspirin, 8 times more anti-inflammatory than ibuprofen, and has twice as the anti-inflammatory effect of cortisone (steroids). Most medicines that we take now for an anti-inflammatory, actually modulate our immune system. It decreases it and keeps our body from attacking itself, where the inflammation is. However, cannabis decreases inflammation at the cellular level. We can actually boost our immune system, because of the way the cannabis is working.
